Hibiscus

Hibiscus L., Ibisch, Eibisch, Pflanzengattg. der Malvazeen, Kräuter oder Holzgewächse wärmerer Länder mit großen malvenähnlichen Blüten. Beliebte Zierpflanzen sind: H. syriăcus L. (Strauchibisch), H. rosa sinensis L. (chines. Rose), sowie H. mutabĭlis L. (Mandelibisch). Die grünen Blüten von H. esculentus L. (Rosenpappel, Gombo oder Gumbo, Okra) als Gewürz und Kaffeesurrogat (Gombokaffee) verwendet. Die Bastfasern der ostind. Hanfrose, H. cannabĭnus L., kommen als Bombay- oder Gambohanf in den Handel. Von H. abelmoschus (Abelmosch oder Bisamstrauch), in Indien und Südamerika, werden die stark nach Moschus duftenden Samen (Abelmoschuskörner, Bisamkörner) zu Parfümerien verwendet.
